“The family, like the Church, ought to be a place where the Gospel is transmitted and from which the Gospel radiates … the future of evangelization depends in great part on the Church of the home.”
— Pope Saint John Paul II, Familiaris Consortio (1981)
“The family is, so to speak, the domestic church. In it parents should, by their word and example, be the first preachers of the faith to their children; they should encourage them in the vocation which is proper to each of them, fostering with special care vocation to a sacred state.”
— Second Vatican Council, Lumen Gentium (1964)
The lifelong journey of Christian faith begins within the family. Known in Catholic tradition as the “Domestic Church,” the family is the first and foremost venue for an individual’s faith formation, serving as an example and a foundation on which to build. As such, Resurrection’s Family Faith Formation model aims to encourage and assist our parish’s families in building a strong household of faith, in which to live out our Catholic identity daily.
Designed for families with children in grades K through 5, our program focuses on the formation of both children and their parents. We gather as a large group once per month. In the weeks between our group meetings, parents will work with their children at home utilizing a grade-based curriculum book to teach the basics of our Catholic faith.
The Family Faith program begins with Family Mass one Sunday morning per month at 10:30, during which children and their families are invited to participate in a special way in the liturgy. The Family Faith gatherings after our monthly Family Mass will be a time for community prayer, table fellowship, and sharing what we have learned.
Preparation for the Sacraments is offered separately, within a classroom setting, for children who are participating in our Faith Formation program. Please check the FAQspage for more information about sacramental prep at Resurrection.
