Food Fight!

The religious ed classroom challenge…fast so that others may feast.

foodfightOne of our goals for this year is to step up our efforts at engaging you and your children in opportunities for discipleship. Over the next month we ask you to ‘fast so that others may feast’, to discuss the possibility of giving up some food or activity during the month of October. For example, instead of going to the movies, take a walk through Mines Falls; instead of picking up take-out for dinner, have soup and sandwiches. Use the money you saved to purchase food and send it with your student to class each week. We will collect food through the end of October. Our junior high program will box the food to send on to Corpus Christi Food Pantry. Our teachers will be asking the kids about their ‘fasting’ experiences so be sure to include them in your discussions.

Because many organizations will be focusing on Thanksgiving meal donations, we are asking you instead to keep the basics in mind. We’ve included the list from the Corpus Christi web site.

“I was hungry and you gave me food…”
 – Mt 25: 35

We need the basics: canned meat, fruit juice, canned fruit, canned corn, green beans and peas, shampoo, tooth paste, tooth brushes, cereal, peanut butter, tomato and chicken noodle soup, toilet paper, ketchup, mustard, salt and pepper.
